QEMU on Windows

QEMU is an emulator for various CPUs. It works on Linux, Windows, FreeBSD and Mac OS X. Windows version is in an alpha stage. I hope I can provide useful information on development and usage of the software.

What's New?

• November 21, 2014: added Qemu Guest Agent for Qemu-2.1.2 (untested).
• October 16, 2014: created Qemu-2.1.2 (see Changelog).
  Status is: 
  • new pixman-0.32.6;
  • compiled with GTK+-3.0;
  • i18n not working, still investigating;
  • contains only i386, x86_64, arm, sparc, ppc, mipsel;
  • works correctly now, except mipsel not ok and x86_64 untested;
  • see included bat files and Doc/test-status.txt
• October 14, 2014: created Qemu-2.1.1 (see Changelog).

  • works but rather slow for qemu-system-i386;

  • my build for version 1.6.0 is still the best version actually.

How to build

Since Qemu-1.0 the build is done with the MinGW compiler, Cygwin is still used for the shell and other tools (MSYS is not required)
The main difference is now that the build is done since Qemu-1.2.1 with MinGW by using the latest version of gcc.
Note that with latest version of cygwin, gcc4-core gcc4-core-4.7.3 and gcc4-g++-4.7.3 are available, maybe this can be compiled again with 'pure' Cygwin
You need the following packages (downloadable with the MinGW installer program) :

Warning: do not forget to correct the values of prefix= in the provided lib/pkgconfig/*.pc files!

ZLIB for MinGW: 
You need the following packages

Note: everything is installed for me in C:\MinGW. Those tar files can be extracted with the -lzma option of cygwin's tar if needed, as the cygwin's shell is still used by me (and not the MSYS version).

SDL for MinGW: 
Fetch my version of SDL-1.2.15 because there is a small bug in the versioning of the DLL file. Source code is here: SDL-devel-1.2.15-mingw32.tar.gz.
Note: my patch is here: SDL-1.2.15-patch.

libfdt for MinGW :

Qemu: 

• Fetch the source code:  http://wiki.qemu.org/download/qemu-2.1.2.tar.bz2 (or here: qemu-2.1.2.tar.bz2)
• Optionally fetch the fmod library:  http://www.fmod.org/index.php/release/version/fmodapi375win.zip (or here: fmodapi375win.zip)
• Fetch and install the patches:  qemu-2.1.2-patch and qemu.ico.
  This patch is based on the original patches found here:  http://www.h7.dion.ne.jp/~qemu-win/download/qemu-0.9.0-patches.zip plus my additional work (.ico file + modified version.rc).
• Prepare the Cygwin/MinGW environment: 
  Created some links in $HOME/bin directory to ease the calls to the MinGW tools:
